Mining

To improve Mineral Processing outcomes, we offer a specialised range of particularly effective processing reagents (marketed under our Biomin Trade Name), specially tailored for Copper, Nickel, Lead and Zinc, and Gold mining applications.

Nickel/Copper

Nickel/Copper Ores: Nickel and copper are generally present as their respective sulphides: Pentlandite and Chalcopyrite. They are often associated with pyrite and pyrrhotite gangue. Separation of the chalcopyrite and pentlandite is generally achieved by floating the copper, with the nickel and iron sulphides reporting to the tails. Rather than use the traditional increased pH a cyanide (along with the associated risks), Biomin 140 depressant will aid separation of copper/nickel minerals.

Copper/Silver

Typical copper sulphide ores contain significant amounts of Iron sulphides, present predominately as pyrite and pyrrhotite. Typically, sulphide flotation collectors float both iron and copper sulphides, making separation difficult, and increasing iron levels in copper concentrates. Often iron sulphide levels can be reduced simply by use of lime and raising the pH to 10-11, but for more effective control and reduction of iron levels, Biomin 170 is recommended. Unlike cyanide, Biomin 170 is a non-dangerous good, and is easy to use.

For control of gangue slimes (typically talcs and clays) Biomin 185 is a very effective dispersant/control agent.

Lead/Zinc

Separation of Galena and Sphalerite is generally well established, with the hydrophobicity of Galena assisting flotation. Sphalerite purity, reporting to the tails, will often be reduced by contamination from iron sulphides. Raising pH to 11-12 and use of an alcohol frother will assist sphalerite flotation, but use of Biomin 150 depressant will enhance separation of sphalerite and iron gangue.

Where there are elevate levels of natural carbon present, use of Biomin 120 will greatly aid in their depression.

Gold Ores

To reduce loss of Gold recovery due to preg robbing, use of Biomin 130 is recommended.
